As part of National Walking Month, the College's Wellbeing and OD teams have been working behind the scenes to plan a series of activities for students and staff across all four campuses throughout the month of May.

For this year’s challenge staff and students across the College will compete to tote up the highest number of walks during the month of May, either as individuals, colleague groups or class groups.

At the end of the month, the campus with the highest number of walks will be announced as the College’s Walking Champion Campus. So, take your class out, have a walking meeting, take a ten-minute desk break, or meet up with a colleague you have not seen for a while – whatever the reason, let’s Walk-This-May!

Track your own walks

Students are encouraged to get outside and complete walks by themselves or with friends and classmates, fitted around their day at College.

These walks can be on whatever walking route you like for however long or short a distance suits you best.

Register and track your walk.

Send any photos of you and your friends out walking to wellbeing@edinburghcollege.ac.uk to be featured on our social media channels.

Campus Big Walks

Get the steps in by taking part in a series of Campus Big Walks led by our Active Campus Coordinator Xsara Murray.

Xsara will lead you round a designated walking route at each campus, giving you the opportunity to get some fresh air, see the local scenery and meet new people.

The walks will begin at 12noon, last around 30mins each and will take place on:

  • Thursday 9 May at Sighthill
  • Thursday 16 May at Milton Road
  • Tuesday 21 May at  Midlothian
  • Monday 27 May at Granton

Please note: participants should bring appropriate footwear and a bottle of water.

Ten minute takeovers

In addition to the campus big walks, there will be a series of ten minute takeovers taking place each week throughout May.

Staff will be encouraged to take some time out from lessons to lead their class outside for a 10 minute walk on the below dates:

  • 7 and 8 May at Sighthill Campus
  • 14 and 15 May at Milton Road Campus
  • 21 and 22 May at Midlothian Campus
  • 28 and 29 May at Graton Campus

Alternatively, if lecturers are not able to take their class outside for a 10 minute walk, they can book a slot with Xsara who will lead their class outside instead.

Wellbeing team pop-ups

The Wellbeing team will be hosting a series of pop-up information stall across campuses throughout May, where students will be able to find out more information and book on to any of the sessions.
