#ECPrizeGiving – Alex excited to continue on her learning journey to reach career goals

Sixteen-year-old Hair and Beauty student Alex McInnes was awarded the Schools College Partnership (SCP) Student of the Year for Hair and Beauty in recognition of her dedication to her craft and her academic achievements at the College’s recent Prize Giving ceremony.

We caught up with the VTCT level 1 extended certificate in hair and beauty skills student to find out more about her college experience and hopes for the future:

“I feel very honoured to be recognised at Prize Giving. I decided to come to Edinburgh College from high school as it offered me the course that would help me start and follow my chosen career aspirations and build up my confidence and know how in the path I wanted to take.

“Being entered in the hair and beauty competitions and placing first and second were major high points during my time at College and I am particularly proud of these achievements.

“The main challenge I faced during my studies was having to follow all the restrictions during COVID since I was studying a very practical course, where a lot of the training would be very hands on practical work.

“If I could give any advice to a student starting at College it would be to be confident in yourself and be open to stepping out of your comfort zone to try new things.

“I have now been offered an unconditional full-time place at Edinburgh College to continue on my learning journey, and my future career goal is to run my own beauticians.

“Just a massive thank you to Clair and Marion for helping and pushing me to show my best work.

“My college experience in three words has been educating, exciting and enjoyable.”
