Course overview
This portfolio preparation course is open to all, suitable for beginners to adults, and school pupils who wish to develop further their art skills for successful applications to Art College or as a creative leisure activity.
You will experiment with a variety of art and design disciplines, media and techniques supported by a specialist Lecturer within our art and design studios at Granton. The course emphasises the importance of drawing and the creative process, providing you with the space and time to refine your skills and produce unique, expressive work. You will learn to use your sketchbook as a powerful tool for research, idea development, and presentation.
This essential element will help you build a compelling portfolio. You will also develop finished pieces that not only connect to your sketchbook explorations but also stand out on their own. As a part of the process, you will investigate how various artists have interpreted and expressed the visual world, gaining inspiration and insight for your work.
Working in our dedicated art and design studios, equipped with everything you need to bring your ideas to life, you will benefit from the expertise of our experienced Lecturers who are passionate about helping you succeed.
The course will ensure you are well-prepared to progress to higher-level studies at Art College or one of our full-time courses at the School of Art and Design at Edinburgh College.
Many of our evening Portfolio course students continue onto the Art Portfolio Preparation 2 course starting in January and then move into full-time study in the following academic year.
A sketchbook and the primary materials and equipment are provided within the course fee.
Join us at Granton and embark on a creative journey that will transform your artistic abilities and open doors to exciting opportunities in the art and design world. Your future in art and design starts here!
