Edinburgh College celebrates shortlisting for CDN Digital Learning Award
The College is proud to have been shortlisted for the Digital Learning Award at the upcoming CDN Awards 2026, in recognition of the unique success of the Modern Languages Department Schools Programme. The CDN Awards celebrate the outstanding talent, dedication and achievements of colleges, their staff and learners across Scotland.
The Modern Languages Department Schools Programme is an innovative approach to language provision which has had a significant impact on the equity of access to language learning. Since moving all of the department’s National Qualifications fully online starting in 2020, replicating a traditional classroom environment virtually, more than 200 students from 95 schools have achieved a Higher or Advanced Higher in French, German, Italian or Spanish, with almost two thirds of pupils choosing languages at degree level, bridging the gap between universities and schools.
The College faced stiff competition, with the CDN receiving nearly 200 entries from other colleges across Scotland, with the successful shortlisting representing a great achievement which everyone involved should be rightly proud of.
Caroline Cordier, Curriculum Team Manager for Modern Languages, says it’s a great honour to be nominated:
“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Digital Learning award by the CDN. This nomination acknowledges the positive impact of our online language courses on school pupils across the country. We are so proud that our digital classrooms improve equity of access to language learning, demonstrating the key role our college plays in bridging potential gaps between schools and higher education.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Glasgow on 3 December, with everyone at Edinburgh College wishing the nominees the very best of luck.
