Lights, Camera, Action! Edinburgh College mock aircraft makes for a convincing film set
Over the summer, the College was pleased to welcome a film crew from the Edinburgh Cine & Video Society to shoot part of their upcoming short film, The Day I met Passenger 15, at the mock aircraft located at the Granton Campus.
The production, which featured 10 actors, five crew and seven extras, involved some of our former and current students from our HND Makeup Artistry and HND Acting & Performance courses, providing them with excellent real-life experience as they pursue careers in Scotland’s booming cinema and TV industry.
Our simulation aircraft cabin, which normally helps teach our students the ins-and-outs of working for an airline, was instead full of cameras, boom mics and all the other equipment you might expect to find on a bustling film set (but that might raise a few eyebrows at airport security).
Lorraine Timmins, Curriculum Team Manager for Travel, Tourism, Hospitality and Events, says it was a wonderful opportunity for all involved:
“In all my years working here this is a first for me, we normally have graduates coming back as guest speakers to talk to our current students for our cabin crew and airport operations courses, but I’ve never had a film crew in before and never had our graduates in shooting the film!
“Providing our current students with the opportunities to apply the skills they’re learning in real-work settings is invaluable. It helps bridge the gap between theory and practice, builds confidence and enables them to develop a deeper understanding of their learning. Collaborating with ECVS, a well-regarded organisation which has received awards for its work, provides access to industry expertise and enhances the career prospects of our students.”
The film, which is set in the future and tells the story of a group of passengers on an aircraft encountering an alien, is scheduled to be released at some point next year.
