Recognising Excellence Award Winners - Abbie Marshall
In June, Edinburgh College was proud to host the Recognising Excellence Awards, a night celebrating many of our amazing students who have worked hard to achieve outstanding results throughout the academic year.
To continue celebrating that success, we are featuring interviews with some of our wonderful award winners, finding out what it meant to them to be recognised, and what their journey through the College has been like so far.
Next up is 18-year-old Edinburgh local Abbie Marshall, who picked up the award for Excellence in Further Skills for Independence:
Hi Abbie! How did it feel to walk across the stage and pick up your award?
“I loved it! Everyone here is so nice to me, and it makes me want to work really hard.”

What brought you to Edinburgh College in the first place?
“I came here when I was still at school to do the introduction course with Amanda and I really enjoyed it.”
What have you enjoyed the most during your time studying here?
“I loved taking part in the Winter Fair, and singing with the choir. I also enjoyed doing the plant sale last year, and doing Art with Elaine.”

Is there anything you’d like to say to any of your lecturers?
“I have a message for Elaine, she’s always very helpful and is a great gardener!”
Is there something you’ve achieved at the College that you’re particularly proud of?
“I’m proud that I’ve managed to improve my walking, by taking part in a walking/fitness campaign with Rob.”
And finally, what are your plans for the future?
“I’m coming back to the College to study the Routes into Education course, and in the future I’d really like to get a job.”
