Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2025 – Rudi Scott

As part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, we’re putting the spotlight on some of our incredible apprentices.

We recently caught up with nineteen-year-old Rudi Scott, who studies at our Granton Campus, to find out more about his apprenticeship, his time at College, and his plans for the future:

How are you finding your apprenticeship?

I like having something to look back on when I'm doing my work and that – it feels rewarding.

Who do you work for and how are you finding balancing work with your studies at College?

I work for Compass Roofing. It's good, I like coming to College and getting to learn by doing things by myself. But then I also like going back to work and getting that real-life experience.

Has there been any highlights in your apprenticeship so far?

Just working in general, getting to slate with experienced tradesmen. It makes you feel good.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about doing an apprenticeship?

100% I would recommend it! I would say it's good. The money is not the best in the first year, and you don't get the best jobs either, but it's rewarding after that and is a good career path.

What would you like to do once you’ve completed your apprenticeship?

I want to go and start my own business after I'm qualified.
