Danielle Lands Dream Job After Graduating
“Fun, cheerful and supportive.” That’s how former childcare student Danielle described her experience at Edinburgh College.
Danielle came to college after high school to work towards a career as a Nursery Practitioner. We caught up with Danielle to find out more about her college experience and how she is getting on in the world of work.
From a young age Danielle always wanted to work with children and it was a dream to become a Nursery Practitioner. It was this childhood dream and advice from school that led Danielle to come to Edinburgh College. This started a four-year journey through a college pathway towards employment in the childcare sector as a Nursery Practitioner.
Danielle left high school in fourth year as she felt it wasn’t for her and started our Childhood Practice Level 4 course aged 16. When thinking about worries about coming to college, Danielle said: “I was worried about meeting new people and making friends within my first year.”
Danielle soon overcame this worry and at college she made some amazing memories and met some friends for life. When we asked Danielle about her college experience, she said: “It was amazing. I made some good friends that I’ll never forget and still keep in touch with. I’ll never forget the funny and amazing laughs, as well as the people I met and shared some of the best moments so far with!”
While studying at college Danielle had to overcome obstacles and one of the biggest challenges was her confidence. Danielle said: “Confidence was always a struggle for me, but working with new people in groups and knowing everyone was there for the same reason was a great relief”.
Danielle is now working as a Nursery Practitioner, something she has been working towards since leaving high school at 16. Danielle told us about her job: “I enjoy getting to know the children and watching them learn, thrive and develop into their own little human. The work placements at college prepared me massively as I knew what to expect as well as knowing relevant guidance.”
For anyone thinking of coming to college, Danielle offers some advice: “DO IT! It will end up being one of the best choices you’ve ever made. It can be scary but it will be worth it.”
