Edinburgh College students attend annual Boccia Festival

A group of College students have taken part in the annual Active Campus and Scottish Disability Sport Boccia Festival in Motherwell earlier this month.

Hosted by New College Lanarkshire at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, more than 100 participants from various Active Campus Colleges came along to participate in the fast-growing sport.

Boccia (pronounced botcha) is a target sport, played indoors on a court. It sees players propel a boccia ball by rolling, throwing or kicking it towards a target jack ball. Similar to boules or pétanque but using a soft leather ball instead, it can be played at any time in any place by anyone.

Edinburgh College sent three teams on the day, while one of our student leaders Victoria had the opportunity to gain valuable experience by volunteering as an SDS official.

The fantastic event was capped off when our athletes were presented their medals by Paralympic Boccia Champions, Peter and Stephen McGuire.
