ESOL bears fruit for Edinburgh College

The College estate is proudly welcoming the addition of two new trees, one a cherry tree and one pear.

They’ve been planted just in front of the Music Box at the Sighthill Campus, where our students and staff will be able to watch them grow, blossom and bear fruit over the coming years.

The trees were provided thanks to ESOL student Beth Namakongolyo, who is currently studying N5 Access to Care and Health Professions. Beth wanted to express her gratitude to the College, and to Scotland as a whole, for giving her the chance to restart her life here.

Beth says the trees are her way of saying thank you for the warm welcome she’s received from the College, the city and the country.

The trees will blossom in spring, fruit in summer, and provide a year-round reminder of the genuine impact that the College can have on its students.

Sarah Donno, College based ESOL and English Language Teacher Training, says it’s a wonderful present:

“Everyone at the College is deeply touched by Beth’s thoughtful gift. Once the trees are grown, each time we walk past we’ll be given the opportunity to reflect on the difference that education, and community, can make to the lives of our students.”
