Course overview
This course is for current school pupils moving into S3 only.
The course could be at several locality bases or specific schools throughout each Local Authority. Each school will know the relevant locality base.
This course provides the opportunity to try a variety of trade disciplines.
The main focus is on developing good hand tool skills and employability skills. There may also be opportunities for work placements and visits to building sites. You can study towards level 4 or 5 SQA units.
What you will learn
- Introduction to Ground Operations; Preparation, Concrete screed, Slabbing and mono-blocks.
- Carpentry and Joinery; Tools and uses, Materials and joints, Finishing Skills and Decorative pieces.
- Tiling; Use of tools and Materials, Wall Tiling, Floor tiling and decorative pattern work
- Brickwork: Intro to Brickwork; Half Brick, One Brick and Decorative
- Plaster work, Application, straightening and render
How the course is assessed
- Practical model assessments along with multiple choice question papers for each unit.
Number of days per week
- Hald-day per week; these will be at our Locality Bases throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians. Days will differ for each Locality Base.
