This course is an Associate Degree that allows you to progress directly into the 3rd year of a BSc Web Development course at Napier University. When you enrol, you'll be a student of both Edinburgh College and Napier University, giving you access to the resources and support of both institutions.
You will learn the latest skills needed for a career in digital design and development. The digital world is always changing, and this course will give you up-to-date skills that employers are looking for. Our expert lecturers, who have real industry experience, will teach you a wide range of skills, including:
- Web Development – building and maintaining websites
- Audio and Video Production – creating multimedia content
- 3D Modelling – designing 3D objects for games, films, and more
- 2D Animation – bringing images to life with movement

- App Development and Arduino Development – designing mobile apps and working with electronic devices

Placement information
- During year 3 at Napier University, many students choose to spend th year on placeent and then complete University after the placement which takes 16 weeks.
How the course is assessed
- You will be assessed on your practical skills
- There will be some written assignments and multiple-choice tests
- There will be one exam
Number of days per week
- approximately 18 hours per week, which we try to timetable into 3 days.
- However, the course is demanding and you should allow 4.5 days of study per week for this course.
Entry requirements
- For school leavers: Three C passes at Higher, preferably one in Computing or a numerate subject and also you will need to have Communications Core skill at Level 6 or equivalent.
- For college learners: SCQF Level 6 pass in a relevant subject such as Software and Digital Design or Computing.
- For everyone else: All enquiries are welcome regardless of qualifications. Edinburgh College computing staff can assess where you can start or progress in your computing career and find the right course for you
Information on Tests / Auditions / Interview Requirements
- Instead of an interview, you will be asked to take part in a Skills and Experience screening exercise this will be on a computer, in our own time at home.
