Course overview

This engaging and practical course offers a foundational understanding of trauma-informed practice and the principles of nurture. Over seven weeks, participants will explore how early experiences shape development, how trauma can impact behaviour, wellbeing and learning, and how nurturing approaches can create safe, supportive environments for children and young people to thrive. 

What you will learn

  • An understanding of childhood trauma and its effects.
  • Practical strategies to support emotional wellbeing and resilience.
  • Tools to build trusting relationships and foster a sense of safety and belonging.
  • Insights into the Nurture Principles and how to apply them in everyday practice.

  • There is no placement element in this course. 

How the course is assessed

  • Throughout this course, you will build up a portfolio of knowledge; there is no formal assessment. 

Number of days per week

  • Dates: 27 April 2026 to 8 June 2026, Tuesday evening sessions 
  • Duration: 7 weekly sessions
  • Time: 6.30 PM to 8.30 PM.
  • Location: This is a blended approach, with the first and final classes held face-to-face at Edinburgh College, Sighthill Campus, and the remaining sessions online via Teams. 
  • Cost: £60.00
