Saudi Arabia - English Language, Vocational and Teacher Training for TVTC
From 2009 – 2015, Edinburgh College worked in partnership with the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) in Saudi Arabia, supported by the British Council Saudi Arabia, to provide courses for over 500 TVTC teachers, administrators and senior principals. This included training courses in Power Stations and Means of Protection, Engineering Drawing using Pro Engineering Software, Teaching English for Engineering, Executive Management, Quality Assurance, National Occupational Standards, Self-Assessment Training, Capacity Building, Automotive Engineering, and professional development courses for TVTC trainers.
Edinburgh College provided a series of training programmes for TVTC trainers and managers in specific vocational subject areas, such as Accounting, Marketing and Engineering. The focus of these programmes was to upskill trainers in learning and teaching styles, approaches, and methodologies. During their three-programmes, the delegates had the opportunity to live in Edinburgh, improve their English language skills, and exchange cultural experiences with their Edinburgh College counterparts.
In 2011 and 2012, Edinburgh College provided a rolling 2-week programme in self-assessment to 320 delegates from TVTC institutes. The delegates included two groups of institute principals from across the Kingdom. The objective of the programme was to introduce the role of self-assessment in the vocational college sector using quality systems and frameworks. Delivered in Edinburgh, the programme discussed the Scottish and Saudi systems, and how they’re applied to manage change and performance indicators.
Additionally, Edinburgh College hosted three cohorts of English Language students sponsored through the King Abdullah Scholarship Programme for Technical Trainers (KASPTT). The students, who all graduated from TVTC institutes with diplomas, completed an intensive English language programme at Edinburgh College for between 6 and 18 months. Upon attaining the requisite English language level for university entry, the students progressed to the third year of their degree programmes at Edinburgh Napier University.
