Course overview

If you want to pursue a career as an electrical engineer, this course is designed for you.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a two-year course taught at Edinburgh College’s Midlothian campus that, once complete, allows you to enter university as a third-year student.

In year one, you will follow the HNC Electrical Engineering course. You will learn essential industry skills through various units, including Mathematics and Engineering.

Progression to the HND will provide you with practical skills and an understanding of advanced electrical concepts and theories. You will use the latest software and study technical subjects to gain a practical understanding of Analogue Digital Electronics and Microcontroller Units (MCU).

In your third and fourth year as an electrical and electronic engineering student, you will study at Edinburgh Napier University or Heriot-Watt University. These are degree-level studies where you will develop your skills and knowledge further, gaining practical knowledge through large team-based projects, incorporating digital and software design mechanics and management. You will develop high levels of electrical and electronic engineering knowledge and be fully trained to begin your future career as an engineer.

You will be taught by staff with extensive experience in the electrical and electronic engineering industry. You will also have access to Edinburgh College workshops where you will use up-to-date technology and equipment. The course is based in both the workshop and classroom ensuring you get a combination of practical and technical skills.
