Course overview

This course will equip you with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience to work with various community groups. It combines theoretical learning with hands-on practice, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of community work.

What you will learn

  • Essential skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in your communities.
  • To work effectively with various community groups and contribute to community development.

Placement information

  • There will be a work placement as part of the course. 

How the course is assessed

  • A mix of written assignments, practical assessments, presentations, portfolios, and exams.
  • This combination ensures students demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical skills effectively.

Number of days per week

  • Three days per week, currently Monday / Wednesday / Thursday

Entry requirements

  • Scottish National Qualifications Level 4 or above in English.
  • Relevant Experience volunteering or work experience in community settings can be beneficial.
  • A strong personal statement demonstrating commitment to community work and relevant skills.

English Proficiency Requirements

IELTS 5.5 to 6.5 

Progression and Articulation Routes

  • Higher National Certificate/Diploma (HNC/HND) In Community Development, Youth Work or related fields.

Career options

  • Community Development Worker, roles in local councils, non-profits, and community organisations.
  • Youth Worker positions in youth centres, schools, and community projects.
  • Adult Education Tutor, support/tutoring roles in adult learning centres or community colleges.
  • Social Services Assistant, support roles in social services departments.
