Marketing Officer Emily completes professional CIM qualification
Our Marketing Officer Emily recently completed our CIM Level 4 Certificate in Professional Digital Marketing course. We caught up with Emily in a short Q&A to find out about her experience on the course. Read Emily's answers below.
Why did you decide to study at Edinburgh College?
The opportunity came through work as I am a College employee. Had this not been the case, I would have still chosen Edinburgh College as a few of my friends and family have completed courses at the college and were positive about their experiences.
What are the key things you have learned in the course?
I think a big one for me was learning new and different ways to structure a campaign plan, and how marketing theory can support this. The planning campaigns coursework also allowed me to put this into practice and this will be a template I can refer back to going forward.
How has the course helped you in your current role?
I’ve picked up new knowledge from the course and it has given me confidence in the work I had already been doing. It was so helpful to refresh my knowledge on marketing theory and getting the chance to meet marketing professionals from other industries and talk to them about how they approach different challenges was a huge bonus.
How has the experience of learning while working been? Has it been easy to manage with your job?
It was a bit of an adjustment to begin with, but once I got into the swing of things, I started to look forward to class on a Thursday. I found that the coursework was challenging but not overwhelming and being able to attend class online made it much more achievable for me as I didn’t have to worry about the time it would take to commute home afterwards.
Do you have any messages for your lecturers?
Joanne was so helpful and supportive, and always quick to respond to my questions in class or over email. She was very knowledgeable and made sure to include a lot of examples and encouraged discussion in class, which really helped to embed the theory and gain a better understanding how it could work in practice.
If you could describe your learning experience so far in three words, what would they be?
Challenging, engaging, rewarding.
